Global Sales Conference Success

Kiwiplan’s global sales team meet to share latest developments

Even the threat of hurricane Irene passing overhead was not enough to deter the sales executives of Kiwiplan meeting at the Corporate headquarters in Ohio recently, to discuss the latest generations of software and system solutions. Senior sales executives from each office around the world gathered in Cincinnati to not only review the latest systems and products, but also to hear about corporate strategy for the company’s development over the coming years.

The event, which ran for three and a half days, allowed for presentations from the regional General Managers to explain and discuss the various market dynamics of the global industry, as well as for software specialists to bring the sales team up to speed on ESP, NextGen, DART and other Kiwiplan products. A series of workshops were laid on to give hands-on experience.

The event’s guest speaker, Joel Cumming, Senior Manager of Customer Analytic Systems at Research in Motion, made a key-note presentation to attendees, focusing on data integrity and reporting systems and why systems are critical to the success of any modern business.

Paul Austin, General Manager of the European division, commented, “This was a great way of not only seeing what is new, but also provided some excellent time for our sales team to sit face to face and discuss market requirements and issues. It is not often that we have the chance to have the whole team together, all in one place at one time, so we certainly made the most of the opportunity.”

“As well as looking at specific products and associated workshops, we had the chance to outline the strategic vision for the coming years and also discuss implementation of our system solutions for new markets,” concluded Jim Walton, CEO of Kiwiplan Inc.

The Little David LD-24 Case Sealer is designed to meet the case sealing demands of customers with high volume runs of the same box size. Its compact design is perfect for customers looking to take up less real estate between conveyors. The LD-24 is a significant improvement to our current offering of fully automatic case sealers. It has a faster production speed(100 vs. 80 ft. min), fully welded frame and positively folds the major flaps instead of plowing them. Dual side rear flap tuckers replace the overhead kicker. Operator stations on both sides come standard, making it mirror image in the field. It is capable of running both 2” and 3” tape in the same machine and is priced significantly less than the LD-16A.

Box changeover is fast and easy thanks to removable crank handles and graduated adjustments that are scaled for precise measurement.   It has self tensioning quick change belts and plc controls for easy maintenance and use.
What sets the LD-24 apart from competing machines for similar applications? It can seal a more extensive box range(length, width and height) and has a faster belt speed.  Improved guarding and indexing gate comes standard. The LD-24 utilizes two cylinders on each side for two independent movements to fold top majors and minors.  This gives the user a significant advantage making adjustments in timing and is more flexible than competitors who only use one independent movement to fold the top flaps.  The LD-24 has an adjustable height and its plc can be integrated into the customer’s conveyor system for start and stop control.  Energy saving mode will automatically shut down machine if it has not been used for 10 minutes.   The box jam indicator automatically shuts down machine to eliminate unnecessary belt wear, extra head and load on the motors.

Stainless steel options for customers in harsh environments include: Main Frame, Caster, Threaded rods and Leveling pads

Preventing Corrosion
& Bacterial Growth in
Canning & Bottling

After a recent change in bottles, a major brewery encountered issues with drying the underside of the cap on their new bottles. This was a big issue, since incomplete drying is the primary cause for bacterial growth and possible corrosion of the cap over time. Their existing blower and air delivery device effectively dried the old bottle, but with the new, ½” shorter bottle, the crown was not being thoroughly dried.

Using air flow modeling, Paxton Products was able to design and then test in-house a new air delivery system for the brewery. Utilizing a combination of custom air knives and manifolds, the new Paxton system proved successful in thoroughly drying the bottle, the crown and under the cap, eliminating mold and corrosion, while simultaneously ensuring labeling integrity downstream.

Paxton Products air delivery systems are engineered to provide maximum flexibility in drying and blow off of packages and products of all shapes and sizes. With high efficiency, low maintenance centrifugal blowers, Paxton systems provide thorough drying while reducing energy usage by over 80% as compared to compressed air drying systems.

"Industrial Ditigal Inkjet System Produces Stellar Graphics Increasing Marketability and Profitability"

In this application, the customer wanted to increase their graphics capabilities for automotive aftermarket products. Their current process was screen printing and limited the ability to produce multicolor images in the desired way. With any screen printing, colors are applied one at a time, having to dry and re-register between colors.  The images themselves were rudimentary and essentially limited to line-art styles. New artwork required proofs, new screens, and new ink mixtures which created lengthy delays for approval. Product differentiation was done exclusively from product attributes.  It was difficult for the company to enhance the product through their existing print method and extend the marketability.

The detailed needs and requirements of the project were discovered through discussions with members from both companies including graphic artists, operations, lab technicians, tooling, engineering, and marketing. Trans Tech helped the customer understand the true cost of their current process and then utilized the in-house development laboratory to design a more efficient process. This new process was then discussed in detail, samples were produced for review with their customer, and  an expected return on investment was calculated.
