Diamur (Belgium), is a producer of cement mortars and have become a leading producer by developing a reputation for quality and user-friendly products. Quality is not only recognized in the product itself, but also the manner in which it is packaged, palletized and shipped.
The company started producing its primary bag size, 25 kg, in 2008 and currently supplies about 50,000 tons per year for shipment throughout Belgium and the Netherlands. In the introduction of the 25 kg product, the company wanted the quality of the packaging to represent the quality of its contents and hence decided to use plastic bags rather than the traditional poly-lined paper bags.
According to Benedikt Vcan den Braembussche, Diamur’s president, “The advantage of plastic packaging is that the mortar keeps longer and can withstand rain (many outlets store the product outside). It is also easier to recycle, because regular paper bags always contain plastic liners. Moreover, plastic packaging does not release dust which is especially nice for customers.” |

Inspection equipment is critical for quality assurance in food processing. Michael Freeman, Product Marketing Manager for Loma Systems discusses the innovations in inspection equipment ensuring the highest food safety standards.
Legislation and regulation dictate that all food processors and manufacturers must have adequate inspection processes in place to prevent and inspect for dangerous contaminants. Additionally, retailers now impose strict standards on manufacturers regarding the inspection measures they require in order for them to sell a product from a particular manufacturer.
Inspection technology specialists can help food processors meet both the HACCP and retailers’ requirements and help ensure that costly product recalls are avoided.
To inspect for contaminants, manufacturers have two main choices: metal detection or X-ray inspection. Metal detection has been available for a number of years, but the latest advances in metal detection technology mean that systems are now even more sensitive to metal contaminants, as well as being more user friendly and designed with features to meet the increasing demands of food manufacturers.

IQ Web Monitor Automatically
Adjusts to Changing Static Charges
Even in Hazardous Locations |
Now approved for use in hazardous locations, the PerforMAX IQ Web Monitor and Probe automatically adjusts the static bar output to maintain set limits of static charge on a web. A single IQ monitor can interface with up to four sensor probes that measure static charges downstream of neutralizing bars. Each sensor probe can be programmed for a desired alarm threshold to suit the application. Real-time static charge data is shared with the BPS Power Supply to immediately adjust bar output while displaying system status at a glance. This closed loop system helps ensure that fluctuating static charges are held within acceptable parameters regardless of web speed. For added convenience, a Remote Monitor is also available to provide real-time, key operating conditions and alarms to operators for up to twelve static neutralizing systems.
